socially acceptable and healthy body image/weight…?

Thursday, September 9th, 2010 | Gain Weight Naturally

i used to be near the 115-118lb range after i lost about 20lbs, but was told that i was too skinny by my parents. and now i am currently around 123-126 lbs ["holiday pounds"], 17 year old female, 5’5″, and a size 3 or 5 in jeans [depends on brand].

most of the weight i gain is in my stomach, hips, thighs, butt, and a bit on my face [naturally round but gets a bit rounder when i gain weight]. is the 123-126 lb range socially acceptable [body is appealing, good looking, etc] and healthy for my age and height? or should i go back to the 115-118lb range. i personally don’t like my stomach, hips, and thighs at the moment but i don’t want to look sickly looking either..

here is what my legs look like at the moment:

yes, its socially acceptable, but it really depends on if you’re eating healthy. if you’re eating healthy and your at this weight then its great. to me you look like you’re skinny and its a really good size to be at. I know people who would kill to have your legs. =]

The only socially acceptable body weight is the one where you’re sickly thin.

Right now, you sound like you’re at a good weight for your height and as a woman, it’s only natural that you’re going to gain in your butt and thighs.

That weight range is normal for your height. As people gain weight, they tend to gain it in certain areas, as for you it’s in the hips, thighs, etc. If you don’t like that area of your body, you could always work out that area (stair climbing, jogging, pilates with lower body exercises).

On another note, don’t let society decide your body image for you. You mentioned if it was “socially acceptable”…well, do you still have friends, do people still talk to you? If so, then you’re ok, of course! So please don’t let others judge you on your looks alone.

At 5’5″ you can be 115-126 and be at a healthy weight. Your legs look fine!
