Is eating too many raisins bad for you?

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 | Gain Weight Naturally

Recently i’ve been snacking on raisins throughout the day instead of snacking on chocolate and was wondering whether this is bad ?? As i know they contain alot of naturally occurring sugars so will this make me gain weight or is snaking on them just generally bad for me ??

raisins can make you go to the bathroom so i guess it’s not a bad thing, lol… you’re losing the sugars when you use the bathroom, lol
They aren’t bad for you, yet not good either. it’s one of the snacks you should eat in moderation.

Too many of anything is bad, but raisins are considerably better for you than chocolate – but everything in moderation!

I know that eating a lot of grapes can make you have a stomach ache because of their skins. I think raisins may have the same effect. I wouldn’t eat more than one of those small sunmaid boxes.

Other than the fact you will need to use a bathroom more often, they are not bad for you per say however to much of anything isn’t too healthy.

as long as you don’t over do it it will be ok. eating too much of anything can cause weight gain, however raisins are a healthier choice than candy. i read somewhere recently to try to eat 6 scheduled mini-meals a day instead of 3 big ones and that should help control the urge to snack. and make you u follow the food pyramid. eat right, eat healthy, now pardon me but I’m hungry…

Raisins are good for you. They’re packed with vitamins and fiber. They are considered to be one of the world’s healthiest foods. http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=33

Unfortunetly, they are also packed with calories. About 215 for 1/2 cup. Yet, they’re much better than chocolate. Remember, ou can enjoy anything in moderation.

just eat them in moderation. eat 1 serving as a snack. Your other snack you could do a handful of nuts or something….high sugar snacks will fill you up quickly but will mess with your blood sugar giving it a quick rise and decline and after about an hour you’ll be hungry again

Well, that’s a good question. Really it all comes down to the final total at the end of the day, how much chocolate you eat versus how many raisins you eat. A miniature bar of chocolate usually has around the same number of calories as one of the tiny boxes of raisins- there is only a couple calories different, and I hate to say it but it’s less for the chocolate. You are right about the sugar in the raisins. It may be fruit sugar, but when you look at the number of raisins, reincarnate those into grapes. All the sugar that was in each grape is still in each raisin. And inside the body, natural sugar or not, it all ends up the same to your body. However, with the raisins you do get fiber for your effort- which the chocs won’t provide. In the end, your raisins are a bit better nutritionally speaking. However, weight gain still depends on the total number of calories eaten. You will have to figure out how many raisins you are eating, versus how much chocolate you would be eating. If you are eating because you are a grazer by nature, or if you are a bored eater, I suggest you swap out both the raisins and the chocolates for something a little less caloric. Try raw veggies or rice cakes instead. Then you can still have a nibble of chocolate, or even the raisins as one snack- which should take care of the sugar craving. Sugarless gum might also be a solution, as you don’t tend to eat while chewing gum. There aren’t any forbidden foods, just foods to eat less of, less often. And both the tiny bit of choc and the small box of raisins have a place. For the fruit fix, grapes are better than raisins. And if you really wanted to do both, perhaps consider skipping the dressing on the salad and opt for a vinegar splash. The calorie savings on a tablespoon of dressing will more than cover you for the miniature chocolate bar.

Too much of anything is a bad thing and that includes raisins which are high in natural sugar (fructose). Try eating a variety of foods instead and include foods such as carrot sticks etc. which are lower in sugar but will help to satisfy your appetite.

Yes. They are a natural sugar but too much sugar of any kind is not good for your body. I would say it is a step up from chocolate, though! LOL

What about trying trail mix? (if you get a stomach ache from nuts just pop a few enzymes they will help you digest them.
