Body Weight/Exercise question?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 | Gain Weight Basic

Hey, I am about 22 y/o 5’8″ and around 115 pounds. I don’t want anything in the next few sentences to be taken as a body weight problem, I do not think I am fat.

I have been trying to tone up lately. I hate working out though. I am what you call skinny fat. I am definitely skinny, but I gain all my weight in my belly. I still fit into a size zero, so it’s not a lot. But if I just cut all the junk food out (which I eat ALOT b/c of my job and school), will I need to work out? I don’t really have the time and the time I do have, I don’t want to spend in the gym.

So if I were to do some basic situps everyday and pushups, etc and cut all the high fatty foods, will I get slimmer and toner and not the jiggle belly? :)

Thanks!

Try doing some yoga. It’s a great way to stay fit. Also you can take-up something like tennis or a water activitie, what ever you want really. The possibilities are endless.

For a yoga web site go to

Good luck, and by the way, doing push-ups and crunches won’t hurt, I am 13 and I do the evry day

i dont know bout girls.. but
so im pretty skinny too. im like 16 but till like two yrs ago i was less than 100. but now im lifting and stuff so its all good. but yeah sit ups and just doing random exercise stuff i think tones up but it wont build anything. and u have to run and do cardiac exercises to burn fat. so if u want a six pack (which u prlly dont) u have to exercise and tone up. personally i dont think cutting the crappy food will do much except stop it from getting worse. so yeah i would recommend doing a bit of exercise a day and it should help but i dont think it will impact much unless u really start to exercise. at least like 30 min a day i would say

Situps and pushups won’t remove fat, but they might help you tone up. The best way to lose fat is cardio. Go for a run or something.

Yes!!! granted from what i read you are a woman.. you seem to have the jist of it. i had the same problem before i started to teach my abdominal class. heres what you do. every night beofre you take a shower which should be immediatly before you go to bed you do 20 crunches and then 10 pushups and then 10 crunches then 5 pushups. take a shower.. you will notice tightening and toning in less than 2 weeks.. the key is to do it everynight. dont overwork then you may tear the muscle tissue but keep your stomach tight and then you will feel a burn.. take a shower and then its also proven to help you get a deeper sleep at night which results in better nutrients cycle and a better REM cycle.

Don’t do the sit ups unless you are also doing aerobic exercises. Sit ups will increase the size of your abs and actually make them bulge out more. Just spend a couple minutes, when ever you get time, to do jumping jacks, walk a little faster between class, etc. anything to burn fat. If you had an extra 5 min. do some jumping jack, then later that day, walk a little fast, before you go to bed, take a few minutes to jog in place. Just try to get at least 20 min. a day worth of aerobic exercise. You have to get rid of the belly before doing the sit ups though.

Cutting out the fatty junk food will definately help out. However, exercise should not be looked at as a waste of time. “Fitness is a way of life”… a “lifestyle” if you will…

The sit-ups and push-ups can go so far. Your body will eventually adapt to the training and it will no longer become effective, as in continuing to tone up. At that point you will need to change up your program. Try to incorporate total body exercises… for example: purchase 8 to 10 lbs weights and do simple squat, biceps curl to overhead presses. this is a multijoint exercise. Other exercises similar to this will keep your training interesting and fun to do.

Not all exercises need to be done at a gym. with just a couple of weights and use of your own body weight, you can create an effective workout routine.

doing ab exercises and a circuit group exercise will help to tone. also during the day you can still exercise your abs by constricting your stomack muscles…doing this through-out your day will help tone the stomack area. do not forsake your evening routine.

doing just push-ups and sit ups may take a very long time to tone up. I did a lot of research in this area a few months ago for myself. I looked up every single detail, and to my findings studies have shown that you need to have 25-30 minutes of cardio (bicycle, running, walking, rowing, ellipticals, etc.) per session, and 3-4 sessions per week depending on your goals. For weight lifting, don’t do the skimpy little 5 lb dumbbells, actually push yourself and do like 15 lbs, and add on it. The important part is that you add onto whatever you’re doing. So you can’t just do some random amount of push-ups and sit-ups if that’s all you’re going to do, otherwise you’ll get nowhere. Have a target, let’s say 30 push-ups (all of proper form) for a week, and then next week you up it to 31 or 32, and keep adding to it every week. Same with sit-ups, do something like 50 sit-ups one week, and every week you up it by 2 or something. You probably don’t have to do any weightlifting, and you’ll be fine, keeping your workout time to 35 minutes top, for 3-4 times a week.

For your diet, cutting out junk food is a great place to start. An even better lifestyle would be to eat 5-6 small meals per day. I suggest using this lifestyle: http://www.menshealth.com/cda/article.do?site=MensHealth&channel=nutrition&category=diet.strategies&conitem=b4db59e36dad6010VgnVCM100000cfe793cd____

That’s what I do, and it’s very fast, you can eat it on the go since all meals are cold except the meal 2 hours after your workout.

When you get the body you like, you can’t just stop working out and dieting all together. You need to maintain both, because your body forms to how you’re working out and eating. That’s actually the very same reason you need to keep adding reps (or weights) to your workout. Because if you lessen up or stop, your body will start to going back to how it was before you started working out and dieting.

Cutting out the junk food will help a lot. You can work more exercise into your day by walking more. Park further out in the parking lot and walk further (if its safe, don’t do that in a place you don’t know), take the stairs instead of an elevator, and there are tons of yoga and pilates type workout DVDs that you can do at home.

i hate to break it to u but… ur gonna hav to sweat a little. Ur belly is soft and doughy because the muscles that are there hav not been worked effectively… Mainly because u are not a fan of the gym. To tone is to strengthen muscle while losing excess fat around that muscle. U can’t tone without using some kind of resistance, Whether the resistance is ur body weight or book or a dumbell. So hold a pillow on ur chest while doing ur crunches…. buy an exercise ball and try it out. It’s so much easier than u realize. as for cutting out the junk food….. well… that’s healthy for evrybody isn’t it?
