How To Lose Weight And Keep It Off

Article by Victor Shallow
With all the different diets on the market and so much misinformation concerning weight loss, many people can’t decide how to lose weight. The purpose of this article is to give anyone looking to lose weight, a clear step by step approach to achieve their weight loss goals. Losing fat isn’t complicated but it does take commitment and a little self discipline. Here are the steps to get started.
1.Decide The word decide actually means to cut off or to end. To change any habit you have to decide exactly what you want to change and why. Cut off from any other possibility other than your desired outcome. This is the most important part of how to lose weight. Unless you absolutely make up your mind that you’re going to change, and why it’s important to you, you will most likely fail. Take the time to write out your goals. Write down exactly how much weight you want to lose and how long you have to do it. Also jot down what you’ll gain by accomplishing your goals( self esteem, more energy, be more attractive to someone you care about, etc) and what it will cost you if you don’t. Don’t skip this step it’s a very important part of how to lose weight. In his excellent 30 day program “Personal Power” Tony Robbins points out that all human behavior is driven by two things; the desire to gain pleasure and the need to avoid pain. I believe the need to avoid pain is the most powerful influence on human behavior. So write down what be will painful about not losing the weight and how great it will feel if you. Keep this list on your night stand or somewhere close where you can read it every morning. Don’t just read it but get emotional about it. Really feel what it will be like to look and feel great. Then visualize how disappointing it will be if you don’t follow through. Pain and pleasure are powerful motivators, use them to help you accomplish your goals.
2. Find a weight loss program to follow. There are many programs that can show you how to lose weight. Find a program that encourages a balanced diet and includes exercise. Two plans that I highly recommend are “Fat Loss Revealed” by Will Brink and “Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle” by Tom Venuto. Both are excellent e-book programs, reasonably priced that include a members only website where you get access to meal plans, exercise videos, personal trainers and much more. Both programs are very thorough and cover every aspect of permanent fat loss. You can click the link at the bottom of the page for more information. It’s important to choose a weight loss program that fits your personal preferences and most importantly one that you can stick to.
3. Exercise for permanent fat loss and a healthy body. Exercise is key for taking fat off and keeping it off. There is no way around it, part of how to lose weight is a good fitness program that includes aerobic exercise and strength training. Aerobic exercise burns fat and strength training helps preserve the muscle that is the main body component responsible for burning fat. Both of the programs mentioned above include exercise routines for all levels. Please don’t make the mistake of trying to achieve permanent weight loss without regular exercise. It doesn’t work.
4. Measure your results regularly and adjust as necessary. Measure your results weekly. 1 to 2lbs of fat loss per week is the goal. Taking weight off too fast causes a “starvation response” from your body. When your body senses that it is not getting enough food it slows your metabolism so you burn less calories which makes it very difficult to lose fat. Be patient, permanent weight loss is the goal. The best way to measure results at home is with skin fold measurements. An accurate and very easy to use caliper is the accu-measure 3000 body fat tester which comes with instructions and is available at amazon.com for under .00. Along with body fat testing you can also use your bathroom scale and also notice how your clothes are fitting. If you’re not seeing results eat less and exercise more. I know that sounds overly simplistic but that really is what it comes down to.Knowing how to lose weight comes down to burning more calories than you take in. It should be done by eating a healthy balanced diet and having an exercise program that includes aerobic exercise and strength training. Remember that step #1 is where it starts. Decide what you want and why. Write out your goals and stick with your plan! You can achieve whatever you set your mind to.
